Latvian school in Tullow before new school
Diaspora Latvian language and culture elementary school ‘Kāpnītes’/Stairs/ for the academic school year of 2024/2025 will already be in its fifth year of online education. We have students from Denmark, Cyprus, Germany, USA, Australia, Slovakia, Latvia, UK, Belgium, etc and the fourth year of education the on-site school is located in Tullow, Co.Carlow, Ireland.
Every school year for us is very colorful, creative, interesting, enjoyable and filled with new knowledge. This is how our children describe the school year. With integrated Latvian language, nature, art, sports, theatre lessons. In the new academic year, the school will continue the implementation of international eTwinning projects. We are winners of both National Quality Certificates and European Quality Certificates. Our teachers are working in schools in Latvia and now in diaspora school: Ingrida – more 30 years, Lucia – more 50 years, Anzelika – 20 years. Tullow school pupils are learning also about Irish history because they are living here and need to know everything about the country in their second language – Latvian, like native language.
We have already planned the activities of the new school year. Since the head of the school and teacher Ingrīda has obtained the certificate of a Magic School AI certified trainer, the school will use all the opportunities offered by AI in improving the learning process as well! The school is also an active member of the Reading books Jury of Latvian Children, Youth and Parents.
The school also develops its own teaching aids. For the implementation of the learning process, teaching aids created by LVA /Latvian language Agency/ are used – textbooks and workbooks.
Applications for the new year – 2024/2025 are open until August 5. – for the school year, because the online school now has some vacancies. A request to parents, think with everyone ‘for’ and ‘against’ before applying, what do you expect from the school, are you really ready to interact, co-operate, that it is not the case that the application is – then it is reconsidered, but the school has already planned accordingly for the number of applications work and finance. This time, however, we can accept only 30 students in different age groups – from the age of 4 to the age of 50+ whose native language is not Latvian, study with us. The school is proud of all students who, as a result of patient work, have achieved the language level. It is not impossible if you really want to achieve your goal. We are proud of our students and the popular Georgian musician Shota Adamashvili, who learned the Latvian language in less than a year by working hard.
We have also opened a waiting list for a number of applications which will exceed 30, because time and desire, unwillingness to learn introduce their own adjustments, therefore. The school is a member of the Carlow PPN. Every year, the school participates in the biggest and most magnificent parade in Tullow, for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, respecting the traditions of the country where we live and the organization has also created a drawing competition dedicated to St. Bridget, which is intended not only for Latvian school children, children from local schools are also invited to participate.
